Does the thickness of stucco affect how likely it is to crack in Ottawa?

Stucco thickness has a direct and somewhat counterintuitive relationship with cracking in Ottawa's climate. Both too thin and too thick create problems, and the ideal thickness depends on whether you're using traditional three-coat stucco or a modern one-coat system.

Recommended Thickness for Ottawa Conditions

Traditional three-coat stucco should total 7/8 inch (22mm) when finished:
