How much does it cost to install control joints in new stucco on a large Ottawa home?

Control joints are one of those details that separate a stucco job that looks great for decades from one that develops ugly cracks within a few years — and in Ottawa's extreme climate, they're absolutely essential. That's $750 to $2,000 in repairs — more than the joints would have cost.- Joint placement requires planning before the stucco goes on. Your contractor should lay out joint locations on the wall and discuss them with you. Joints are visible lines in the finished surface, so their placement affects aesthetics as well as performance. Good contractors align them with window edges and architectural lines so they look intentional.- Caulking the joints with a high-quality polyurethane sealant ($3 to $5 per linear foot) is recommended in Ottawa. The sealant accommodates movement while keeping water out. It needs replacement every 7 to 10 years, which is an inexpensive maintenance item.
